Processed foods have become a staple in American homes these past few decades. What was a glorious time-saving solution may just be the downfall of the American diet and health overall. If you’re here, reading this post, you’re probably already aware of this. And maybe you are ready to make the switch to more whole foods in your kitchen, or you’re ready for a complete transformation and elimination of processed foods. Wherever you are on your journey, I hope this post helps you! When I first began my “Kitchen Detox,” it was overwhelming, to say the least. I wanted to start off on a clean slate after learning about the dangers of non-stick cookware, processed foods, and other kitchen staples. Let’s get you started, shall we?

  1. Set attainable goals

The first step to resetting your kitchen is to set attainable goals. Trust me, if you’re the same as me, you just want to dive right in. Don’t, unless of course, you have the means. But don’t burn yourself out. Some examples of goals might include:

  • Eliminating processed foods from your diet
  • Reducing your sugar intake
  • Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your meals
  • Swapping out toxic kitchen supplies for safer options
  • Cooking 4 dinners a week
  • Meal prepping

By setting specific goals, you can focus your efforts and make measurable progress toward a healthier kitchen. Always remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

  1. Stock up on clean whole foods

The next step is to stock up on clean whole foods. Here are some items to add to your grocery list:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains such as quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat pasta (if you can find sprouted grain products, that would be better!)
  • Legumes such as chickpeas, lentils, and black beans
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Lean protein sources such as chicken and fish
  • Healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil, and nuts

By filling your kitchen with these nutritious ingredients, you’ll have plenty of options for creating delicious and healthy meals.

  1. Swap out toxic kitchen supplies

Another important step in resetting your kitchen is to swap out toxic kitchen supplies for safer options. Here are some items to consider replacing:

  • Plastic food storage containers with glass or stainless steel
  • Non-stick cookware with ceramic, stainless steel, or cast iron
  • Plastic utensils with bamboo or stainless steel
  • Cleaning products with non-toxic, natural alternatives

By using safer kitchen supplies, you’ll reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals and create a safer environment for cooking and storing food.

  1. Meal plan and prep

Finally, to set yourself up for success, it’s important to meal plan and prep. Spend some time each week planning out your meals and snacks, and prepare as much as you can in advance. This will help you stay on track with your healthy eating goals, even when you’re short on time. Download my FREE 5-Day Meal Plan and Grocery List below!
